QUEST & NEW UNIQUES & BANS
  • New quest released, this puzzle-related quest is quite hard.

  • Green treasure maps / chests released if quest is completed.

  • New gem (from new green chests, not mining), which can be used on the master ring, necklaces and to upgrade scroll teleport book.

  • I've banned some players who were alt trading and or botting manually. This didn't show up in the discord as I manually bannned them (groups of accs) but it explains the lower player count. (Total unique players online didnt not go down which is perfect, we have about ~90 unique online players 24/7)

  • I've changed my mind on trading, I've begin the work to create a grand exchange system where you can trade items with other players via a centralized system - more details will follow.

Gear snapshots
  • You may now take a snapshot of your gear and equipment to share with others (camera icon in inventory and equipment panel).

A bit of everything: BUG FIXES & new HUNTING Perks & qol + Agility xp buff
  • Bronze Pirate Boss achievement moved from champion to elite.

  • Added shortcuts to use hunting perks in hunting panel.

  • Fix: dying to bosses still charges coins without having killed them at least once before. Also applies to ghostly deranged mage.

Arghh!!! (Pirate noises) + New Bundle + Major change on combat accuracy stat.
  • New boss fight with unique drops added, can you find the area to fight this not so retired pirate?

  • First Dragon equipement released.

  • Fix bug where falling objects during combat would still damage you even if you stepped off the tile.

  • You will not lose any coins when dying to a boss instance if you have never killed them at least once before.

  • All monsters that require level 60 hunting to kill have been reduced to level 50 temporarily. (Until new hunting pools gets released)

  • Nerf dodge cooldowns by increasing its timer, they are way too OP, it made pirate boss and will probably make other bosses too trivial.

  • New bundle with unique reward. Can you find it?

  • Added a bunch of achievements related to the new content.

  • MAJOR COMBAT ACCURACY CHANGES:

  • Previously, hit chance dropped off very sharply the moment an NPC's defense exceeded your accuracy: even a tiny difference could cut your hit rate nearly in half.

  • Now it works on a smoother 10% per point scale: if an NPC's defense beats your accuracy by 1, you have a 90% chance to hit; by 2, 80%; by 5, 50%; and so on. No matter how tough the enemy is, you'll always land at least 1 in 20 hits (5%), so you're never completely locked out of dealing damage.

  • Don't forget the NPCs now have that same change when trying to hit you, making defence a more important stat to have.

Combat Engine Changes + New Potion
  • Low level engine code combat changes, see comments below.

  • Attacking animations are more pronounced, this is subtle but you might notice a better feel of npc animations when they attack.

  • Fixed running while meleeing an enemy that's walking, avoiding dancing loops.

BOT BUSTING + FARMING PLOT + RAIDS (IN THE WORKS)
  • Upcoming: Raids 1 code has begun, get ready for some new BiS items and awesome (hopefully) combat action! This is probably the most exciting update I've been working on to date, will take a few weeks to finish.

  • New special farming plot released in the ghost mansion cemetery, they will make spirit-related seeds grow instantly.

  • The auto banning bot has been upgraded and will be re-enabled soon after my findings.

  • Added ghost pepper & seeds from monster drops.

  • New hard achievement.

BOTTING & EASTER EVENT & NEW SKILL!?

    Botting News:

  • The first development milestone of the bot detection system has been completed and is now in testing. The tool monitors player behavior and can automatically identify and ban accounts engaged in botting (only if it's 99% sure). It's not active just yet as I need to make sure it's working in production. It'll be turned on if everything goes right and should start applying bans.

  • I had to tweak the tool quite often, and an easy way to stop most of the bots could be possible if custom scripts wern't a thing - though I don't think the trade off is worth it for now at least.

  • Please note that the detector mentioned above does not have 'favorites'. It's striclty uses numbers/facts to issue bans on everyone online - so catching a ban is never to be taken as a personal attack.

  • Easter Event:

  • Like party hats, bunny ears can now be obtained! I used the same code as party hats to save time and focus on botting/trading rework. They will become tradable once the event ends mid April.

  • New Skill - Summoning!:

  • The new skill I've been working on is on its way.

NPC COMBAT ENGINE & TWEAKS / BUG FIXES
  • Rewrote a part of the engine for NPC combat behavior to smooth out pathfinding and reduce erratic movement when engaging players, especially larger npcs which caused inconsistencies. Also, npcs which are attacked from a safe spot (which means both left & right tile are inaccessible from your character) will try to path to you, and become stuck if they cannot reach you, making tagging npcs to then spear easier.

  • Warroot seeds obtainable from farming contract reward crate, but not plantable yet - harvesting this seed will start a medium level boss, giving new unqiues for perm farming buffs. More on that later.

  • Large enchantment potion now works when enchanting multiple orbs (+ fixed thorn leaf orb), also removed multipliers over x3 as it was too overpowered, besides you can get those numbers now at lower level if enchanting potion is active, giving brewing more buck for its money.

  • Ability to enchant multiple runes for ice/thorn/lava orbs.

  • Omboko stall now gives bamboo strips & paper.

  • Using the omboko axe gives you a 20% chance of bamboo becoming a strip when chopping automatically.

FARMING & ENCHANTING ORB CREATION CHANGES
  • Added a farming timer on the top bar for players to easily track what's growing and what's ready.

  • Fix a bug where farming contracts could ask for hp seeds which do not exist - those who have this task will have it automatically reset.

  • Buffed harvest amount on mushrooms. It used to be amount = (farmingLevel / 5) + 10, it's now amount = farmingLevel + 30

  • Brewing XP buff - brewing vials used to give 0 xp. Now, normal vials give +50 xp, large vials +100xp and huge ones +150xp. This should help with early levels without making end levels overpowered.

  • Ability to enchant multiple spell orbs based on your enchanting level (see image below).

    FARMING CONTRACTS & CHANGES
  • All mushroom seeds grow time quadrupled, along with their xp. Also, there are way too many mushrooms coming into the game, so the yield remains the same for now as I monitor it.

  • All tree seeds now have a lower farming level required to plant (now matching its woodcutting counter part)

  • Farming contracts may now be completed by talking to Bob in the greenhouse, which includes greenhouse wide rewards and items (new seed too, which is not a leaf, mushroom or tree seed).

  • New brewing XP source, nothing crazy.

  • Teleport scrolls are now tradable.

  • Using remote sell worship ability no longer closes the bank interface.

    WHAT'S COMING?
    I just wanted to share what I have in my mind and what I plan on working on in the next coming weeks for the game. I did a poll in the discord I probably should not have put 'in the next update' here, but it's nice to see what people want. So here's what I have in mind:


    Bank Rework:

    Completely rebuild the bank from scratch. This will allow players to sort items differently, create different bank tabs, replace items with other items and better UI overall.


    Farming Requirements:

    Adjust (mostly reduce) level requirements for farming seeds, specifically tree seeds. Also, increase the timers for seeds that take only 5 minutes to grow by like x10. Also increase experiece by x10 and yield. Having 5 minute timers doesn't really make sense (exception for seeds like barely, but even then).


    Farming Contracts:

    Introduce farming contracts which would be an alternative way to obtain new items and farming XP. I already have ideas for contract specific seeds/rewards here.


    Magic Scroll Book:

    A new item that allows you to read it, and it will show all teleprot scrolls you have on you and bank, for which you can just use directly.


    Clan System:

    New system that allows players to create new clans, and invite other players to join. This will require rewriting chat system to allow different tabs and stuff, similarly to what flatchat does but keeping the chatbox in the same location. This will be tricky.


    Team Account Mode:

    When the clan system is complete, teams account mode will come next. A game mode where you can create a team of 2 - 5, and you'll all be hardcore with the exception that you can trade between each other.


    New skill on its way:

    Slowly fletching out the ideas of releasing a new skill, I've started some work on it. More on that later.


    As you can see the backlog is big, and things are subject to change. For now, I can't wait to implement each and everyone of these. I'm also reading suggestions in chat and had some talks with `fool` on adding alternative skilling methods (brewing, worship, etc) - and it was said that stealing's flexibilty in training was a good approach. It's just a bit tricky when it's a buyable skill, we don't want to tank resource prices.

    Finally the last update regarding blocking alt trading for same accounts/ip certainly has had an effect, a lot less players with same ip connected. Keep in mind that team accounts that are coming will be able to trade on the same IP/account just fine. And playing multiple accounts will also be allowed, could be quite fun actually.

    BANS & ALT TRADING BARRIERS & NEW MOD
    • Spent the last 3 hours reviewing reports, bans will be issued in the next coming days as I confirm them. Keep reporting bots guys, it may seem like nothing is being done at surface level but the data is stored and can be reviewed anytime from me, even months after reports come in. (As I'm doing that now)

    • It is now no longer possible to trade with a player within the same account.

    • It is now no longer possible to trade with a player that shared the same IP address.

    • I have now appointed a new moderator to help me with keeping things clean, congrats @ Mairuu! :D You will always be the master at chopping trees in my heart

    • Sorry for the lack of content updates, I've been traveling this week and will be leaving again in a few days for irl business ventures, but I have Mount FrostVale lined up to be released in the next coming weeks (exciting!)

    • I want to share that with my limited time (which I'll have more soon hehe) makes it hard for me to not produce more content and to focus on these issues, but it's a very valid point that this work must be done. It's not fun, feels like a chore for me, but it's for the better of the game. Once this ban wave goes through, I'll jump back on content & bug fixes and will issue another ban wave later on. (I'll try to do it once a month). Just know that if you botted now, and didn't catch a ban, it does not mean that you're in the clear as you could be banned 2 months later, even if you stopped botting.

    • I love coding this game so much (content!), I've even convinced my spouse to start working on pixel art so you might see some new stuff popping around the game ;P (decorations, flower pots in houses, etc) - Just remember that we are all doing this to enjoy the making of games. The number of hours I put into this is crazy, and I'm not in it for the money as most of you know. (Could spend my time actually doing contract work - but that's way less exciting than what we got going here) - I have so many exciting ideas for raids, so let's keep the momentum going and advertise this small little game to your friends! Love this community even with the hiccups we got hehe!

    HARDCORE BOSS TEAMS, NEW POTION, BALANCING CHANGES, BUG FIXES
    • Hardcore accounts may now team up with other hardcore players for bossing.

    • I've decided to uncap the earning of hunting points, so now you'll gain them even though you're maxed on hunting level cap. It's a bit cruel to have this capped for players putting so much effort in hunting, and because it takes a long time to make new monsters to increase level cap I've decided to make this change. I could easily make a bunch of random monsters with high stats and increase hunting level cap, but I want to be careful to not just flood random monsters with no meaninful lore/drop so that's why it's taking time. Quality of quantity.

    • Reduced treasure map hutning perk from 8000 to 5000 points required to purchase.

    • Noctyrix now in the hunting pool.

    • Soaked bats now have 1 hp instead of 25.

    • Fruits obtained from fruit tree seeds has been buffed.

    • New potion released.

    • Treasure maps drop from combat xp have been re-enabled, they still drop from monsters too.

    • Teleporting during banking will now close it.

    • /bank command released, which opens your bank in view-mode only from anywhere.

    CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION & BAT EARS & BAN HAMMER
    • New characters created can now be customized (hair, shirt/pants color etc.) - existing characters can visit the hair dresser in Mystic Vale for a make over.

    • Fix a bug where killing Noctyrix while bats alive set them as "hidden", causing healing bats to heal the boss on the next round and soaked bats to extinguish the flames.

    • New Noctyrix drop (bat ears).

    • Going through a bunch of reports for botting right now, already banned a few - I need to code it so that banned accounts no longer show up on hiscores, this is what I'll be working on. Some players also legitimately watch movies or do other things while mindlessly clicking to grind, barely looking at the screen or chat, which can easily make their behavior look automated even when it might not be. (I used a foot peddle before and was accused of botting for not responding and stuff, so I know this can happen here lol, a bit embarrased saying this)

    PLAYER & NPC PATH FINDING CHANGES
    • Issues with players clicking to walk/run around the map sometimes had dead clicks has been fixed. Kiting enemies in combat should feel way smoother now.

    • Issues with players talking to an npc where its left tile was blocked from an object now works.

    • Clicking an NPC to chat while they were walking causing you to dance has been fixed.

    • Clicking an NPC to attack while they were walking causing you to dance has been fixed.

    • Walking animations for every monster engine changes, you'll notice that when they walk they feel more alive and reactive.

    • Removed dim effect during dialogues when speaking to npcs - got a lot of complaints about the flickering aspect of it.

    SOON TO COME DUO BOSS (SOLOABLE, BUT DIFFICULT) & SMALL OTHER CHANGES & BUG FIXES
    • Been working on a new duo boss called Noctyrix. The boss is actually done and working, but to be safe I want to do more testing so it will be released in the next update. Can you find the enterance?

    • Fix a bug when casting a certain spell applied that weakness when switching orb types.

    • Potentially patched an issue where sometimes the server would lag. The issue was related during long lasting silkfang instances. Basically the baby spiders we're marked as hidden when killed instead of deleted. This means, after hours of an instance being open, thousands of spiders were walking around the room (even if you can't see them). Suprised the server didn't straight up crash with 1200 npcs in one room!

    • Treasure map drop rate for all bosses has been increased.

    • It's now impossible to get a map drop from an npc if a map is already on the ground.

    • Technical: Continue the work on the core game engine, with this next change - we are literally saving 50% of packets being sent to the client. This is really crazy and although this doesn't change game play at the surface, it's a huge improvement on the networking side of things, and reduces server costs monthly by ~50 USD (which scales with player base!) - Great news all around!!

    • Mad monk "boss" no longer heals randomly, but rather on a set timer. Also added healing splat on enemies to make it clearer.

    • Nessie related items from inventory no longer removed between games.

    • Added 2 rare artifacts from mining meteor's & alien.

    • Fix a bug where the achievement "Lochness Fishies" was no longer working due to the new addition of the rare gold fish.

    • New achievement (hard): Complete the lochness monster minigame after firing all the colored fish at once, including the rare gold fish.

    • ENGINE WORK: Reworked NPC pathing and how data is sent to client, this indirectly fixed a bug with idle pet animations. I'd like some parmesan for my spaghetti please.

    • BOTTING: I've gotten complaints about legit players being annoyed at the pickaxe being unequipped, especially mobile players. I've implemented a smart way of doing it, where players who have less bot like actions will get this event less frequently.

    • BOTTING: Started going through the list of reports for bots / alt trading to eventually ban hammer them. Some of them are false reports, remember that we have players who do one skill at a time or other weird accounts which seem suspect but is totally legit and fine. Even got reports on hardcore players accused of alt trading. All I'm asking is to report players if you really know they are breaking rules as it is a waste of dev time investigating legit ones.

    • I'm going to do a live Q&A stream on player questions, talk about the botting situation, and explain my the future of this project. Date of stream coming very soon, earlier than later. Stay TUNED.

    LAG IMPROVEMENTS & NEW DIAMOND PREMIUM SCROLL (not p2w)
    • Technical: Projectiles (desert wall eyes, falling flames etc) in the backend were coded in a way where a new Thread would be created for each of them, which is computationally heavy. It's now been changed to Scheduled Executor Services. E.G. Goal of this was to reduce server load and potentially reduce the lag we see on occasion.

    • Added a diamond premium scroll. This scroll acts excactly the same as the gold premium, but with a diamond F icon - only that is lasts for a year when consumed. I'm grateful that a handful of you have been using the gold scroll monthly for over a year now, so this scroll is the same but at a discount if you buy more coins in bulk.

    • New hunting monster released. Can you find them? It has a unique drop of 1/400, and is a new source of gems (rare still)

    • Bot detection measure has been added - players that fit specific parameters will have unexpected results when mining small nodes. If you're a normal player and not a bot, you have nothing to worry about.

    • /detach - Ability to detach the chat into a popup window

    • /autoyell [on/off] - changes default chat message to yell or not per session

    • Maps dropped from monsters buffed by quite a bit, especially high hp monsters (from 5x to 10x more common!)

    REPORT FEATURE & BOTTING DISCUSSIONS
    • Got back from my weekend with some friends only to see a raging discord, and I agree with most of the messages - some a little mean :'( - with good reason. I will be setting aside the downloadable client to address the issues mentioned from the community.

    • I absolutely admit that I have been putting aside the banning feature. It's not something fun to code, and with my limited time I tend to turn towards content/bug fixes - but this was my mistake and now it's time to get things in order.

    • Added a functional banning module. Players may also now report others if they suspect of any rule breaking (right click player to report them). I'll probably review them weekly and bans will be in waves - maybe mods will eventually get access to this too, but not just yet. (yes I've seen the messages about needing more mods, but you have no idea how careful I am with picking them, but we do need more for sure)

    • In the works: I'm adding a separate server where botting & alt trading is allowed. Any account that joins this world will be locked to it (with confirmation screens ofc), so it won’t affect the rest of the game. This is for players who enjoy scripting/making bots, or pushing systems in that way, while keeping the official server fair and competitive for everyone else. They will also be exlcuded from the hiscores. I mean, and I have to admit, making bots for this type of game can be FUN. So I'm giving them an official sandbox for them to have fun. This will also reduce the amount of work to ban them, as hopefully some of them will join this new world. Server costs will go up but I think it's worth it!

    NESSIE CHANGES
    • 2 new unique minigame related fishing tools looted from water spirit (using nessie points) released.
    • One of the above items dropped allows you to sometimes fish randomly a gold fish, and using it in the cannon will increase your points for that round.
    • Fix a bug where the 4 man team achievement only trigged on the player who got the kill, now everyone in the instance should get it.
    • Hardcore accounts will now get the achievement above automatically even if the team size is 1.

    • Treasure chests: There is now a rediculous rare chance of getting pirate gold fishing tools (cosmetic), or the priate's gold itself to craft them. (Ranges from 1/30k to 1/70k per chest roll)
    • The items above have been removed from collection log as it's stupid rare - they include a server message for it should someone get one
    • Cold damage in frostvale now applies correct value to hp.
    • Fix empty lantern not being used when filled with slime oil.
    • Fix pine tree with snow on them requiring a ridiculous amount of ticks.
    • Fix a bug where players were getting treasure maps on xp drops from combat related skills - those are obtained from monster drops.

    • I was so happy to release the update yesteday and that quickly changed when the update timer wouldn't start. This meant that player profiles could not be saved on reboot. Worst possible outcome is players lose about ~5min of progress, since profiles save every 5 minutes. Well, turns out that the function that saves was never being called due to a subtle but impactful change I made to improve lag in the recent week. I went to bed quite pissed yesterday and slept like crap to say the least. I'm really sorry for those who were affected by this bug, please contact me if you lost meaningful items (rings, scrolls, masks etc) as I can check the log and refund those items. Same for massive XP losses. Hopefully not too many people were affected.
    • Now that I've slept on yesterday's problem, it's time to move forward and implement safety features to prevent this from happening again.
    • Fixed update timer.
    • Fixed periodic save issue.
    • Added custom admin commands to force save everyone.
    • Forstvale bank should now be working.

    POTENTIAL LAG FIXES
    • Technical: Made some changes with how player saves are handled. As you might have noticed, the player base has increased lately which has caused an issue with lag. I believe the reason for this is that player saving happens in the main game loop. What this means is that every X number of ticks, a player profile is saved - which can causes on average ~80ms of work. A game tick is 500ms, so if multiple player profiles are saved on the same tick, the tick for that game loop exceeds 500ms, causing the lag. So now saves are now managed by a seperate thread, seperate from the main game loop, allowing the game to continue to run smoothly while saving occurs. I've also added other heavy related functions on another threads which should further help the main game loop to stay healthy and under 500ms per tick.

    • The good news with what's mentioned above is firstly, the player base is growing :D. The servers running this game are very weak, we're talking 2GB of memory, including the database. This signifies that the issue is NOT a problem with the game engine, but the saving aspect of the code. That being said, I plan on opening more worlds should the player base increase, which will easily solve this problem anyways - plus that means less fighting for resources. I'll probably introduce a new world should we reach 250+ online, which I think can happen easily.

    • Last but not least, I'm also rewriting the npc combat engine. This will make adding more bosses easier and makes me add mechanics like never seen before. Also, I want to mention that I do not like bosses that are just a 'stats check', as it can just be annoying. I'm thinking about the mad monk. Too low defence? Dead for sure. OKish defence? Click boss and mass eat food and hope for the best. Good defence? Tank and kill. This is not a fun experience, and while it's ok to have some bosses like this, it won't be the case for most of the upcomming ones, including raids.

    • Thanks everyone for the mad support, really. This is so much fun and I think we got something.     MINING CHANGES & CHEFS BACK ROOM ADDITIONS
    • Mining changes: If you start mining a rock, you will always get the ore, even if another player mines it before you. Basically keep that mining animation going if the rock is depleted as you'll get the ore everytime.
    • Also a quick note on the change above: People are quick to point fingers and accusing others for auto clicking, but for the ancient node it's not the case. If you didn't know, clicking a depleted node will auto mine the node as soon as it becomes available - without any interaction required. I'm not trying to dismiss the fact that we have people who bot/autoclick but it's important to not accuse anyone without having 100% proof.
    • The back room in the chef's house now has a bit more to offer.
    • Fix a bug where adding a uncooked pie removed the cooked version in your inventory.
    • Remove "Firemake Showoff" achievement as there is no pie that currently increases the firemake skill.

It lets me easily add crazy boss mechanics in the future, where I can set dynamically images, frames and speed of attacks for such spells - as well as target a player, all players, or players with a certain weakness, player with lowest health etc. The possiblities are endless, and it's quite scary hehe.
    • Did some bonemeal changes for fruit trees thanks to the flatmmo wiki, they now use much less bonemeal, but will take ~15% longer to grow now.
    • Giant Flufflare boss will no longer be assigned in the level 20 hunter bracket (It's at 40+ now).

    NPC ANIMATION IMPROVEMENTS + MOD TOOLS
    • Fixed rogues display issue when killed + fixed chickens having 10k health.
    • Technical: Reworked core npc animation engine. Basically, an attack animation will now be prioritized over standing/walking animations. This is essential as monsters (such as desert mage) have unique attack animations that signify the type of attack used - for which the player needs to react. Now, the animation should always play in full, even if the npc is walking. This update also reduced the amount of packets sent between client / server - reducing overall networking usage. If you see any bugs related to this, please let me know in discord.
    • Rogues now have an increased timer for when the disappear (increased x 3).
    • Removed common messages from server messages (leafy gloves, bird feed pouch, any level gained under 80).

    STEALING STALLS & FRUIT TREES
    Stalls A.K.A Dailies:

    I've added stalls which players can steal from on a daily basis. I'm unsure if this one-click daily training & looting method is the way to go. I've been going back and fourth about how to implement this, so I just released it and I'll wait a few weeks for some feedback on it. Not a fan of dailies, but this kind of is just that. The XP drop is nice though. I don't want to add too many dailies like this, but a few I think is fine, open to feedback in the discord.


    Fruit Tree Seeds:

    I've added the ability to grow fruit seeds which are mainly obtained by stealing from stalls. These fruit seeds are designed to give players the abiltiy to train farming through a different path. Tree seeds are the most common way for massive xp, but fruit seeds help players who don't enjoy finding bird nests to get farming seeds that actually give somewhat good XP. Fruit seeds are a middle ground, they take much longer to grow than tree seeds found in nests, and also give less XP then them. I want tree seeds from nests to remain the best XP/h for farming, so this just bridges the gap between that and regular mushroom/leaf seeds.


    Cosmetic Equipment Overides:

    There's been some talks (and to my suprise some support) about adding cosmetic overrides where players can purchase or obtain items to change the look of their character. Example: I am wearing a gold body armour and can cosmetically make it pink / shiny / whatever for others to see. I am not in favour of this, and will never implement such feature, even if it means more revenu (could easily sell cosmetics) - I just don't like it, not one bit. People should flex their hard earned items from gameplay imo. - won't poll this, won't implement this.

      FlatMMO has been keeping players hooked way longer than my past idle games. The retention numbers look great based on my logs. I’ve been watching the live stats, and instead of that usual drop-off after launch, players stay logged in (yes some do afk). The Reddit post I made brought in a lot of players, and they ended up staying longer than expected or what I'm used to see. In my previous games, people would usually try them once and leave. This time players are actually sticking around after trying it. (I had about 5% retenion on idlepixel, but now it's so much more than that!) What I'm trying to say is that we have something special here, and with raids being worked on soon is going to make it so much fun. I cannot wait to share this update with you and other stuff that's coming in the next weeks/months!

    • The forest spirit may now redeem evil tree points, which brings in new unique items (gloves, totem, bird feed, new logs, new bow/staff, pet).
    • The double XP from evil trees now requires leafy gloves obtained from spirit to work. These gloves also double your points.
    • I still feel like the alien gives too much charcoal, nerfed again to 5 - 15, plus a new source of woodchip is released with forest spirit.

    EVIL TREES, BUG FIXES & GROWING PLAYER BASE
    • There is a very rare chance that any tree chopped (except bamboo) turns into an evil tree. The evil tree can then be chopped for the next hour, doubling XP and getting special rewards. An evil tree spawned by a player can be chopped by anyone - and won't speed up how fast it depletes. The reward points can be redeemed somewhere, who can find the area?
    • As you can see, the player base just grew quite a bit. Very nice to see that! A bit overwhelming to say the least.
    • It is now possible to finish the tutorial with 0 sleep, and a 2 beds have been added.
    • Fixed trading which caused game to crash.
    • Fixed path finding bug when trying to talk to an npc standing next to a blocked tile.

    • Donor system reworked. There is no more concept of 'bound' and 'unbound' donor coins. They are just called donor coins now, and any account that had both bound and unbound donor coins have been combined together automatically.
    • You now purchase premium scrolls via donor coins to redeem. Those who purchase them can trade them, however they become untradable once traded. Also, you may now upgrade a scroll from bronze -> silver or silver -> gold with donor coins.
    • Those who had donor coins on the market will have them automatically cancelled and brought back into your main donor coin pile.
    • Note that donor system changes did not change prices, nor did it introduce any pay to win aspect as I'm stricly against it. It's only to remove the confusing bounding system that this was implemented.

    GETTING PLAYERS ADDICTED

    Ok I admit that the title of this blog post is a bit direct and maybe even a little blunt, but let me share some numbers & stats with you.

    When it comes to FlatMMO, I’m not chasing revenue or squeezing every penny out of the player base. My priority is growth, meaning getting more people to log in, explore, and become part of the world. I’d much rather have twice the players with half the revenue than half the players with double the revenue. A bigger, more engaged community creates better experiences for everyone - plus it's fun to see players running around the game world doing their thing. It's kind of why I was afraid to increase the map size, simply because the world would feel more empty since players are more spread out. Anyways, that's a whole other topic.

    In the past weeks I've been progamming monitoring tools to track new accounts and how they interact with the game. 80% of new accounts seem to login for 1 min and log out and that's it, the other 20% actually move between maps, begin skilling, and usually login the next day. I'm trying to find a way to keep players engaged when they login. I have a feeling that these players who are suddenly dropped into a world with no clear direction or goals are turned off right away. That's why I'm currently working on a tutorial for new accounts which will be released in a few days.

    When this tutorial comes out, Even if you already know what you’re doing, I’d appreciate it if some of you could run through it. I just want to make sure everything feels clear and makes sense for new players so feedback here would be great before I advertise next month.

    I’m getting ready to start sharing the game with new players, which I haven't done before. I'm actually questioning myself if the timing is right and if there is enough content? What do you guys think? To make things less annoying, I’ve added the ability to create guest accounts; so new players can hop in from one mouse click.
    I think I'd like to create a 1 minute video before advertising the game. I'd host it on youtube and it would show different activies in the game (skilling, bossing etc). If anyone has picutes / videos of game content, feel free to share it on the discord as I might use it for the video :) - preferably group content.
    Like I've mentioned in my other blog post, once the player count starts to go up with advertisement, botting worlds will be released. Hardcore accounts will also be released soon after.

So don’t get discouraged if there aren’t updates for a few days—I’m still working on the game every day. Things are getting more complex now, and I want to make sure everything is fully tested before releasing it. I've never been more excited for the future of this game, I'm sure it will succeed, I'm enjoying it so much!

    • pets have been added to the game; an extremely rare drop from bosses & fire/water minigame spirits. Skilling pets will come soon.
    • three new potions.
    • demons and gorilla drop table has been buffed.
    • ents now have a defence of 6 instead of 8.
    • hunting no longer has a cooldown, and a bunch of monsters have been added pre level 30. (Sorry those above level 30, I could just draw and release a bunch of higher level monsters but I want to take my time to get the drop tables right & also focus on new content related drops instead of just adding random existing items to new monsters drop tables)

    general thoughts with the game release

    Wow. This has been the most exciting game to release. Seriously, I'm writing this text right now in my basement and I'm already thinking about my next piece of content to implement. This type of game is something I've been wanting to do since I was like 12 years old. I'm a 34 year old father now, but I believe I've gained enough experience from my idle games (dhoffline, dh1, dh2, dh3, idlepixel) to make something worth while.

    I want to thank everyone who plays the game and those who have donated to keep the game running smoothly. As we speak, it's costing me quite a bit to operate the servers but as long as I break even I will keep working on this project, not because feel like I have to, but because I enjoy it very much and want to keep adding more stuff!

    I'm also super impressed with the community. I mean Dounford, the scripts you make are so well constructed. It's awesome to see. Also Bacon has been putting tons of effort on flatmmo.wiki, and quick to do so after updates. Warms my heart to see this kind of work from the community.

    current botting situation

    First and foremost, let me say that botting is against the rules.

    As everyone knows, botting is the act of letting your computer perform actions while you are AFK—for example, clicking trees, mining rocks when ore spawns, etc. Autoclicking also falls into the botting category.

    Bots exist in every single game out there. World of Warcraft, OSRS, RS3—all MMOs have bots running around. Since Flat MMO runs in a browser, botting is even easier to do.

    Look, I get it. The grind is tough, and you have other things to do, so botting seems like the go-to solution. You also get the satisfaction of gaining items through your script, which probably feels good. However, this game was not designed for bots. I do have a potential solution in mind though—read on.

    So, how do we fight bots? First of all, bots on the main world will always be prohibited. My plan is to create a separate botting world. Anyone could create a new character and check the “botting” option, which would give them access to the botting world. Bots would not be allowed in the main world and would not participate in the hiscores.

    I’ll prepare this new botting world when I start advertising the game. One small issue is that I want to fix the random crash we’ve been experiencing before opening the doors to the public. The only problem is that I need the server to crash while I’m online to diagnose the issue—and for some reason, it hasn’t been crashing lately. I’ll wait ~3 more days, and if it doesn’t crash, I’ll advertise and open the botting world.

    Current players who are botting will be removed from the hiscores and automatically transferred to the world mentioned above when the time comes.
